Dr. Peter S. Staats is a globally recognized leader in pain medicine, neuromodulation, and vagus nerve stimulation. As the founder of the Division of Pain Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, he was the first academic anesthesiologist to implant neuromodulation devices, developed a unified theory in pain that provided the foundation for integrative care, trained future leaders in on interventional pain and conducted numerous research trials leading to new strategies in pain medicine, revolutionizing the treatment of chronic pain. Dr. Staats has authored nearly 600 scholarly works, including articles, book chapters, and 14 books, with his latest text, Vagus Nerve Stimulation published in November 2024. A prolific inventor, his numerous patents have contributed significantly to advancements in improved pain care from high dose capsaicin ( Qutenza) and in the vagus and multiple on the vagus nerve stimulation supporting helping shepherd in the bioelectric revolution. He has also served as Chairman of the Board of examination of the World Institute of Pain, President of the World Institute of Pain, the North American Neuromodulation Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the Southern Pain Society, the New Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the new Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and is the current chair of the vagus nerve society. He is the former recipient of the Raj award for excellence and the state society award from ASIPP and lifetime achievement award winner from ASIPP, ASPN, NY, NJ, Wisconsin, and West Virginia SIPPs as well as the North American Neuromodulation Society, The Robert G Addison award from AAPM, the legacy award from the American Academy of pain medicine the NAPA pain conference and the trailblazer award from the World Institute of Pain. |
